Video Gallery

There is so much great video content on the web, but like with the web itself, sometimes it is hard to search through all of the useless stuff to find some really interesting, educational videos. In this space we can share our favorites with our peers, so we know they are coming from a trusted source. I expect many of the videos here to be library and information science related, but that is by no means a requirement. Please feel free to share anything you think the rest of us will enjoy. In order to share a video, copy the video's embed code, click on the video link in the left sidebar, and paste it in the body of your video content. Underneath the body, there is an input format option, be sure sure to choose full html. Post it, and it can be viewed by visitors of the website, although only members can comment. If you have any problems posting view our faq.

Rethinking Creativity

Check out this video. First of all, because it is bad ass. Second of all, because it exemplifies the post-modern information age. As future information workers it is important for us to get a handle on the type of environment we are going to be working in. In this new world the line between creator and spectator is becoming increasingly blurry. In this video the creator takes two works of art that are over thirty years old, and with (presumably) no expectation of monetary reward, puts them together for the entertainment of all.

Like many, I am not exactly sure what role librarians are going to play in this new environment, but I think the important thing is that we do play in it. We have nothing to lose. It has been a running theme of mine during the short time this website has existed, that librarians do not enjoy their jobs enough. I think that might be the first step towards a bright future for the Library. We need to recognize that despite bureaucracy, lazy co-workers, and obnoxious patrons, libraries rule, and we should be having fun sharing information with others.

Future Role of Librarian

this is a thought provoking, short (3 minutes) podcast by Microsoft's Jon Udell on what the role of the librarian may be in the near future. It deals with the changing nature of people as consumers of information to people as producers of information, and what role librarians can play in supporting this new information environment.
