Research

It is unfortunate that we work on a research paper for months, only for it to be read by one person, and then forgotten about. Thanks to the internet that is no longer the case. Here you can check out some research done by some USF SLIS students. Feel free to tell them what you think about it. If you are interested in submitting some research of your own click on the research link in the left sidebar. I certainly don't want to deter faculty from posting research to this site. Any research postings from faculty would be a great opportunity for students to be inspired by professional quality research.

RDA: Resource Description Access

This paper describes AACR2, FRBR and RDA and their relationship and impact on cataloging guidelines. Beginning with a background of AACR2 and its shortcomings, the paper then examines RDA as the proposed revision to be published in 2009. How RDA improves on AACR2, its purpose, the progress made since 2005, and the advantages and disadvantages are highlighted. The impact of FRBR on cataloging and RDA is included.

The Green Age of Libraries

In this paper I explore the emerging trend of green design in library building. Using a wide variety of sources from the fields of LIS, architecture, and environmental science, I discover that there are a number of reasons why this trend is gaining momentum. I first define green building. Then I examine a number of case studies to see how green building strategies have been implemented in a real world setting. Finally, I explain why this movement has become so popular, and why it will be one of the defining issues in the LIS field in the 21st century.
