Hi!! I am on the west coast (Ft. Myers) but I thought this site was a great idea and wanted to join. This semester I am taking my 7th class. I had hopes of taking 2 classes/semester and finishing up in 2008, but that did not work out, so I am also doing the 1 class/1 semester thing. If I keep going I will eventually graduate--I'm projecting 2010.
I also chose USF because I wanted some face to face time. Also (to be frank) I also didn't want to take the GRE (you have to do this if you go to FSU). While most of the instructors are helpful and knowledgable, I am frustrated by the lack of feedback and the lack of instruction. It seems that what a class consists of is the student reading and sharing comments on the discussion board--then turning in a paper. Then you look at your grade on blackboard. There is limited feedback from professors on your comments and your work. McCook does a smart thing. If you want feedback on your paper, you mail it to her a week ahead of the due date; if you turn it in online, you get an extra week but just a comment. Being the procrastinator that I am of course, I INTENDED to mail it to her, but didn't, so that was no one's fault but my own.
Also--I would like a little more instruction when I actually do come to class for a Friday or a Saturday. Some people fly in from other states for these classes, and I can't say they've been worth it. At first I was learning how the school works and grateful for ANY contact from being online. But once I felt comfortable with how the system worked and started concentrating on content, I can't say that I've been overly impressed.
I agree with whoever discssed Foundations--boring, boring, boring. I am not really interested in the libraries of Alexandria.
Thanks for making this available Martin!!!
